The question we are asked every week, in winter as in summer: when is the best time to come to Southern Corsica? The honest answer is: it depends. On what you are after, your budget, how much you mind crowds, and how you rank beaches, mountains and food. Here is how we see it.

April and May: the secret Corsica
Few visitors know this window, and it is our favourite season for the real Corsica. The maquis erupts: rock roses in flower, wild orchids, the heady scent of immortelle and myrtle. Daytime temperatures sit around 20–22°C, perfect for walking. The sea is still cool (16–19°C), but our pools are heated which more than makes up for it.
The beaches are yours. Palombaggia at 9 a.m. in May means you, a few early walkers and the sound of the water. A dream. And the prices? They are 30 to 40% lower than in high season. A few restaurants are still closed in April, but the essentials such as Le Relais in Sotta and A Spartera are already open.

June: our clear favourite
If we had to pick un month to come to Corsica, it would be the first fortnight of June. Here is why:
- The sea reaches 22°C — warm enough to swim without thinking
- The days are the longest of the year (daylight until 9.30 p.m.)
- Everything is open: restaurants, beach bars, watersports
- The summer crowds have not arrived
- Prices are still gentle (10 to 15% below July)
- The maquis is green and the light is extraordinary
It is the ideal time for a touring holiday based in Figari : beach in the morning, a nap, mountains in the afternoon, drinks on the terrace.
July and August: the real Corsican summer
If you are coming with children and want guaranteed warm sea, sun and holiday atmosphere, this is your window. Temperatures of 28–32°C, water at 24–25°C, events everywhere, evening markets, the Saint-Laurent fires, concerts.
The drawbacks to know about:
- Palombaggia at 10 a.m. in August is vraiment full. Get up early (before 9.30 a.m.) or aim for late (after 5 p.m.)
- Restaurants fully booked — reserve several days ahead, especially A Spartera and A Casa Corsa
- Prices rise 30 to 50% compared with spring
- Some walks are closed when the fire risk is high (Bavella in particular)
Our tip: book a villa with a private pool. You avoid the crush on the beaches in the heat and enjoy the sea when it is cooler. That is the Corsican luxury.
September: the connoisseurs' secret
On the numbers, it may be the best month of the year. The sea stays at 23°C until mid-October thanks to Mediterranean thermal inertia. The days are warm (25–28°C), the nights pleasant, and the crowds have gone by 25 August.
The grape harvest begins — the time to visit Domaine de Peretti della Rocca in Figari, five minutes from the villas, and to have dinner at A Spartera among the vines. The autumn light on Palombaggia is unreal.

October: the gentle interlude
Few people realise it, but October is still perfectly swimmable in Southern Corsica (20°C in the water), with daytime temperatures often above 24°C. Prices are back to spring levels. The maquis turns ochre and russet.
It is also the ideal moment to explore inland: Bavella, Ospedale, the Cavu valley — without the crushing summer heat and without the crowds of walkers.
To avoid (unless you have a reason)
November to March: Southern Corsica is beautiful in winter, but many restaurants and shops close, the sea is cold (13–15°C) and the days are short. Unless you are specifically after absolute quiet, it is not the season for a first visit.
